This is a blog about the Constitution and the Supreme Court and how they function. Chief Justices and their role in the court system.

The Fourteenth Amendment is a part of the United States Constitution that came into effect in July of 1868. The amendment states that all citizens that were born in the United States cannot be deprived of life, liberty, or property; without due process of law. This is one of the most important amendments in the Constitution. Also in 1808 the 20 year rule was diminished and the issue of slavery was brought up. They decided to end all slave trade. The buying and selling of slaves was now illegal.

The Supreme Court is the highest judicial court in the United States and holds the most power. They watch over the appellate court system that watches over the district court system. They handle cases brought to them on the federal level. Every week the Supreme Court gets hundreds of cases brought to them but only handle 100 of them. They go through each one of them and they decide which ones they are going to take on. The process starts at the local level, moves up to state, and if it gets there, the Federal level. The cases that come in are all extremely complicated and take a lot of time to deal with. The Supreme Court dates back to the 1700s with John Jay being the first Chief Justice of the United States. It continues today with current Chief Justice John Roberts.
